The Formosan macaque, also known as the Taiwanese macaque, is an indigenous species found only in Taiwan. It is a matriarchal society, where females play a dominant role. These macaques are a unique presence in the mountains of Taiwan and share a close genetic relationship with the Japanese macaques.
